“Because of a slightly irregular heart rate I had just been hooked up to an ECG machine at a hospital in Paris. Nothing serious. At that moment I received the call. My heart rate rose becoming more and more irregular, it exploded. The doctor came running in asking: ‘My god, what’s happened?’. I’d simply been told that I would be receiving the Ernst von Siemens Composers’ Prize. The moment was captured in my ECG scan.”
