Helmut Lachenmann

The composer Helmut Lachenmann studied music theory and piano at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart, before continuing his studies under Luigi Nono in Venice. In addition to a range of teaching appointments, both at home and abroad, Helmut Lachenmann was engaged from 1981 to 1999 as Professor for Composition at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. His compositions are performed across the world by leading orchestras and ensembles and are featured on the programmes of domestic and foreign festivals and concert series. Among the awards he has garnered are the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize and the Royal Philharmonic Society Award in London. Helmut Lachenmann is a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Mannheim and Munich, as well as the Belgian Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts.
