Composition Commissions issued to Jérôme Combier and Snezana Nesic

Hannoversche Gesellschaft für Neue Musik e.V., Hannover, Germany

The “Zeitlupe 2018 – Una Voce Poco Fa” series deals in four moderated concerts with the versatile combination of new chamber music and voice.

With works like Pierrot Lunaire and his Second Quartet op. 10 Arnold Schönberg opens up a world of new possibilities in the 20th century in terms of the use of the human voice in chamber music. With their extended textures and colorful tonal possibilities these early works marked a considerable leap forward as compared with the piano-accompanied “Lieder” of the 19th century. As things progressed various composers also took the opportunity to include the human voice into instrumental chamber music in other ways – such as in the form of recitations or the instrumental use of the voice. Over the last 40 years contemporary composers have had the opportunity to work with much more versatility with the instrument that is the voice. “Zeitlupe 2018 – Una Voce Poco Fa” highlights the range of new compositions that explore the human voice in chamber music. Four works are centerstage here. While repertoire works by Johannes Schöllhorn and Bent Sørensen will be performed, composition commissions have been issued to Snezana Nesic and Jérôme Combier with the support of the EvS Music Foundation.

Snezana Nesic works predominantly with musical theater and uses text in her music. She is writing her new chamber music piece for the renowned countertenor Daniel Gloger and Ensemble Ascolta. Jérôme Combier is an important French composer whose music is enjoying growing acclaim among the international audience. His regular collaboration with Ensemble Cairn marks him out as a connoisseur of modern chamber music. The line-up suggested by him for soprano, microtonal accordion, clarinet and sho arouses curiosity in his composition.
