Student Aid Fund

In May 2020, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has already reacted to the Corona Pandemic and the resulting precarious situation for many students by offering one-off special grants. In February 2022, the Board of Trustees has decided for the fourth time to give further €2 million to the fund, which supports music students in need at 43 conservatories in Switzerland, Austria and Germany as a result of the Corona pandemic. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is working closely with the associated music institutions, who allocate the fund’s resources to their students in accordance with their needs. Applications can only be submitted directly to the respective universities and not to the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation directly.

"Our students, who come from all over the world, are suffering greatly from the effects of the Corona pandemic. They are an important pillar of cultural and social life in our region. Due to the near-complete stoppage of social activities, their earnings have been greatly eroded. With your support, we are able to help students in need."

"Your solidarity with the students is more than just a financial contribution in these difficult times - your generous gesture is likewise an expression of appreciation for the arts and their relevance for a strong, multi-faceted society".

E-mail from the University of the Arts Bremen, Germany, 23rd June 2020

"Music students are feeling the effects of the Corona crisis acutely, as most of the part-time jobs available to them to finance their studies have vanished. We assume that the situation will not be normalised as fast as we would hope. Your valuable financial support is a major contribution in enabling us to continue our emergency aid efforts. Thank you for your generosity."

"The Armenian soprano Mariam Aloyan, the Indian baritone Frazan Kotwal and the German bassoonist Theresia Schmalian are all very integrated with and network solely through the diverse concert and cultural scene in Stuttgart and the surrounding region. Due to the cancellation of all concert events, far beyond the initially predicted three months, their source of funding for their living costs is missing. 'As the only Indian student at HMDK, it is not just difficult but almost impossible to live in Stuttgart. I am so grateful that I received this emergency aid,' says baritone Frazan Kotwal. All three students are grateful for the Ernst von Siemens Foundation and the Society of Friends’ aid programme, which enables them to at least cover their rent and living costs for a period.”
