Andrea Zietzschmann

Born in 1970 Andrea Zietzschmann studied Musicology, Art History and Business Administration in Freiburg, Vienna and Hamburg. Alongside this she also worked at the broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), the opera houses Staatsoper Stuttgart and Staatsoper Hamburg and in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. In 1997 together with Claudio Abbado she founded the Mahler Chamber Orchestra working for six years as the ensemble’s director. 2003 saw her take on a role as Orchestra Manager at the broadcaster Hessischer Rundfunk (HR). Here she took over as Head of Music in 2008 responsible for the corporation‘s various bodies of musicians and festivals including Cresc, its contemporary music festival. November 2013 saw Andrea Zietzschmann move to Hamburg to take over management of the four orchestras/ensembles, the concert series and festivals of broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). As part of her work at the NDR she was also entrusted with a leading role in the Elbphilharmonie project and the launch of the residency of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra at Hamburg’s new landmark. Since September 1, 2017 Andrea Zietzschmann is the new general manager of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation.
