Márton Illés am Klavier

Commission to Márton Illés

Münchener Kammerorchester (DE)

Márton Illés composes a cello concerto for the Münchener Kammerorchester (Munich Chamber Orchestra) and the cellist Nicolas Altstaedt. Márton Illés and the Münchener Kammerorchester have been working together for a long time. Illés' violin concerto Von-tér (a co-commission by the Münchener Kammerorchester and the WDR), which was premiered in 2020 by Patricia Kopatchinskaya and the WDR Symphony Orchestra, is now to be followed by a cello concerto for the Münchener Kammerorchester and cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, which is to be premiered in December 2023 under the direction of Bas Wiegers, Associated Conductor of the Münchener Kammerorchester.

The contact between the Münchener Kammerorchester and Márton Illés goes back to the Munich Biennale 2008. The work Post Torso, which was received with great enthusiasm by the orchestra and premiered at that time, was performed again at a guest performance of the orchestra in St. Pölten. Rajzok, premiered by the Münchener Kammerorchester in 2011 and funded by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, has also been performed several times. The orchestra has recorded the second version for Alpha Classics on BR in March 2022. Part of this release will also be the violin concerto Von-tér with Patricia Kopatchinskaya, commissioned by the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Münchener Kammerorchester, which the Münchener Kammerorchester recorded under the baton of Clemens Schuldt in December 2021. Even in the run-up to this intensive collaboration with Márton Illés, who was on site for the recordings, the joint desire to set up a collaboration with the cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, who, like Márton Illés, is a long-standing and important partner of the Münchener Kammerorchester, became apparent.

The composition commission to Márton Illés for the Münchener Kammerorchester is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
