Ostrava Days 2023
Ostrava Center for New Music (CZ)
The 21-day Ostrava Days Biennial (Institute and Festival) is one of the largest summer programmes for new music. The compositions of the participants as well as works by well-known composers of the 20th century will be performed in various programmes. Ostrava Days 2023 is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
The festival will present 90 works, of which about one third are world premieres. The Ostrava Days create a close community of young and established composers and musicians. They interact not only professionally – through participation in lectures, seminars and discussions as well as rehearsals and performances – but also socially. The participants establish personal relationships that are essential for the emergence of ideas, both musical and artistic.
The 2023 Festival will feature works by 41 emerging composers, 8 mid-career composers such as Peter Ablinger, Isabel Mundry, Bernhard Lang, Rebecca Saunders, Miroslav Srnka and others, 16 established composers such as Zygmunt Krauze, Henry Threadgill, Christian Wolff, Alvin Curran, Petr Kotik and others, and classics such as Iannis Xenakis, Julius Eastman and György Ligeti.
