Five South-African Composers at Festival d'Automne à Paris

Festival d'Automne, Paris, France

The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports this concert that features works by five South-African composers and is part of the 2013 Festival d'Automne focus on South-African performing arts. It will present a new work commissioned by the Festival d'Automne to Michael Blake. A selection of composers of different generations has been made : Andile Khumalo, Clare Loveday, Angie Mullins and Pierre-Henri Wicomb. Four of them live in South-Africa. Only Andile Khumalo shares his time between Germany, New York and South-Africa. In 2013, the Festival features a large display of music from South-Africa, both traditional and modern. This concert will show how typical musical traditions from the Xhosa community are invigorating the musical language of Michael Blake.
