Karlheinz Stockhausen „Samstag aus Licht" Opera in einem Gruss und vier Szenen

musica viva / Bayerischer Rundfunk, Munich, Germany

June 26 to July 1, 2013, Munich will see Bayerischer Rundfunk’s musica viva concert series present a performance of the opera Samstag aus Licht (1981-83) from the cycle Licht – Die sieben Tage der Woche (Licht – The Seven Days of the Week) consisting of  seven stand-alone operas by Karlheinz Stockhausen. The German premiere for Samstag aus Licht is to be performed in the composer’s "quasi concert version". "Quasi concert" means that the opera is performed largely without a stage set but including the gestures and actions and the most important costumes and props composed into the work. The individual scenes are presented in the form of independent events at specially chosen venues over a number of days and in repeat performances.
The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the performance of  Samstag aus Licht for which the ensemble musikFabrik, the soloists Michael Leibundgut, Marco Blaauw, Benjamin Kobler, Helen Bledsoe and Dirk Rothbrust and finally Kathinka Pasveer (who has worked on all Licht performances until now) and the conductors Rupert Huber and Ingo Metzmacher have been chosen. Moreover, production of Scene 4 at St. Michael’s Church will also involve a series of selected students from Munich’s Music Academy (in connection with ensemble risonanze erranti, conducted by Peter Tilling).
