International Masterclass for Young Composers

Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart

Founded in 2003 the Summer Academy is a special program organized by Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Since its opening in 1990 the Schloss Solitude academy with its scholarship program has issued funding to over 1,200 young artists from more than 100 countries. The academy is seen worldwide as a reference institution among artistic bodies and sets itself apart especially with its undogmatic artists’ funding tailored to the individual needs of the recipient. Artists from the fields of architecture, fine art, performing art, design, literature, music/sound and video/film/new media can apply for funding.

2015 sees the holding of an international composers’ masterclass as part of a summer academy. Artistic direction comes care of Chaya Czernowin (Tel Aviv/ Cambridge, MA, USA) and Steven Kazuo Takasugi (Cambridge, MA, USA). Another lecturer signed up for 2015 is Rebecca Saunders. The masterclass offers the participants a stimulating environment giving them the rare opportunity for an intense exchange of ideas with the lecturers, artists from other art fields and academy grant recipients. Furthermore, the young composers elaborate their works with Freiburg’s Ensemble SurPlus that are then presented in two public concerts at the end of the summer academy.
