Composition Commissions issued to Tarnopolski and Trojahn

Munich Philharmonic, Munich, Germany

"MPHIL tomorrow" is the working title of a new program platform for contemporary music from the Munich Philharmonic. The platform is intended to form a firm fixture in the orchestra’s concert program. The concept arose at the express wish of Valery Gergiev, Chief Conductor at the Munich Philharmonic. The aim is to inject the topic of “contemporary music” into the different segments of the orchestra’s practice and programming. Provided the audience accepts the new platform, it will be further extended and developed.
As part of the project composition commissions will be issued to Vladimir Tarnopolski and Manfred Trojahn with the support of the EvS Music Foundation – that will be incorporated into the Munich Philharmonic’s concert program. The composers come from three different countries and have proven in their previous work for the orchestra that they are capable of special achievements and display an individual compositional profile. One work will be premiered under the baton of Valery Gergiev. The two other premieres will be presented by guest conductors.
