Publication – Correspondence of Arnold Schönberg with Felix Greissle

Wolke Verlag, Hofheim, Germany

Schönberg’s student and son-in-law Felix Greissle (1894-1982) is known for his numerous arrangements of Schönberg’s works, but unknown as their copyist and ultimately as editor at the publishing house G. Schirmer in 1940s New York. In this capacity he facilitated commissioned works for Schönberg and launched numerous performances with great conductors of the day. This dual family-cum-professional role resulted in a constant exchange of letters. In combination with Greissle’s memoirs this extensive correspondence constitutes a milestone in Schönberg research and reception. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has facilitated this publication from the publishing house Wolke Verlag.
