transcript Verlag, Bielefeld, Germany

What impact does the cultural globalization process have on composition in the 20th and 21st centuries? The volume Komponieren im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert als Reflexion der Globalisierung. Geschichte – Systematik – Praxis (Composition in the 20th and 21st Centuries as a Reflection of Globalization. History – Systematics – Practice) is devoted to answering this question. In focus are the musical relationships between the East Asia and the West. Furthermore, detailed musical analysis opens up perspectives on globally conceived musical historiography against the backdrop of cultural and social history. The contributions collated in the volume concentrate on numerous inter-culturally accentuated works by East Asian and Western composers such Béla Bartók, Igor Stravinsky, Helmut Lachenmann, Tōru Takemitsu, Tan Dun, Isang Yun, György Ligeti, Yūji Takahashi, Isabel Mundry, Toshio Hosokawa, José Maceda, Ge Ganru, Hans Zender, Chen Xiaoyong, Zhu Jian’er, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Chaya Czernowin.
