Guest Visits to South African Universities

ensemble, Stuttgart, Germany

ensemble has accepted an invitation to South Africa to hold workshops and concerts at universities in four different cities in this country. Concerts presenting high-level works of New Music are rare in South Africa. For this reason, concerts featuring works by European and South African composers are planned. Key works by important European composers will be juxtaposed with works by younger generations of composers from Europe and South Africa. During their studies the students of participating universities have little opportunity to gather experience through encounters with professional New Music ensembles. Workshops with ensemble can therefore give students valuable experience for their own compositions, allowing them to include this in their work before the compositions are rehearsed and performed.
These intense encounters supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and the concerts held in various cities provide stimulating impulses for the development of New Music in South Africa.
