Wien Modern 2014 – Focus on Georg Friedrich Haas
Musikverein Wien Modern, Wien, Österreich
Fall 2014 will see the holding of the 27th edition of the Wien Modern Festival and once again its organizers will try to harmonize both tradition and innovation, traversing borders and questioning forms and formats, Providing one of the focal points at this year’s festival is the Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas – and fittingly he is also at the center of the opening concert to be held on October 29 featuring the ORF Radio-Symphony Orchestra Vienna under the musical direction of its chief conductor Cornelius Meister together with Klangforum Wien. Like scarcely any other composer of the present day Haas epitomizes today’s composition in its essence. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation will be supporting this focal highlight on the composer.
By selecting works from different eras and stylistic genres as well as a composition commission it will be possible to present a broad range of the composer’s musical creativity allowing the audience to gain an insight into the current tonal world of this exceptional artist.
