Quarz Spiele auf der Suche nach Mozart – Composition Commission issued to Violeta Dinescu

Young Munich Philharmonic Orchestra

In 2005, under the umbrella of the Bavarian Philharmonic, the Young Munich Philharmonic Orchestra developed the concert series Mozart + which has since then been held annually around the time of Mozart’s birthday. Each of the concerts within the program contrasts works by a contemporary composer of the 20th or 21st century with works by Mozart. For 2010 Rumanian composer Violeta Dinescu was chosen as Mozart’s counterpart and entrusted with a commission for the dedicated young orchestra with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The work Quarz Spiele auf der Suche nach Mozart (Quartz Games in Search of Mozart) for solo double bass and orchestra was performed for the first time at Munich’s Cuvilliés Theater with great success.

Tuesday, January 26th 2010, Premiere
Cuvilliés Theater Munich
