„Ohren auf Europa 2011“

Biennale der Neuen Musik, Düsseldorf

This “festival tailored to Europe”, as the journal Neue Musikzeitung already put it years ago, will be held in 2011 for the ninth time now, once again with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. Emerging at the biennale realized by the notabu.ensemble neue musik under the artistic direction of Mark-Andreas Schlingensiepen is a musical picture of Europe from about 1950 to the present day. Every year the program is planned by a different composer – after the likes of Manfred Trojahn, Heinz Holliger, Friedrich Cerha and Beat Furrer, Wolfgang Rihm will be in charge of the festival program in 2011. With his selection of works by Kurtag and Stravinsky, Stockhausen, Lachenmann and Boulez through to Widman and Illès he traces a personal portrait of New Music in Europe from 1960 to the present day. The focus here lies on music for medium-sized ensembles although chamber music also features not insignificantly in the program, too.

May 18th and 26th, June 6th and 15th 2011
