Composition Commissions issued to Clara Iannotta and Ulrich Kreppein

Duo 2KW, Munich, Germany

Line-ups with accordion are no longer rarities in New Music. Especially in chamber music and in connection with strings the accordion has developed a fascination without fixed line-up types forming. The viola is also an instrument for which, particularly in more recent musical history, an extremely large and varied repertoire has arisen.

The aim of Klaus-Peter Werani and Kai Wangler, who together form DUO2KW, is to extend and establish the repertoire for the viola and accordion line up. For this two commissions will be issued to the composers Clara Iannotta and Ulrich Kreppein with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. The composers’ different aesthetic approaches suggest their works will display very different forms.

The 15 to 20-minute pieces will contribute to the duo’s concert repertoire alongside other duos for viola and accordion.
