more than music | Composition Commissions issued to Lisa Streich, Marko Nikodijevic und Zosha Di Castri

Niedersächsische Staatstheater Hannover, Germany

The more than music project at Staatstheater Hannover offers a platform to jointly discuss the further development of concert forms and possibilities of interdisciplinary collaboration in the arts so as to question, shift, sharpen and reorient our habits of seeing and hearing.

Song, recitation, movement, light, video, sound art, installation or sculpture: with a cycle of three commissioned works, the Hanover State Opera is designing new multidisciplinary forms of the concert orchestral piece. In their commissioned compositions, Lisa Streich, Marko Nikodijevic and Zosha Di Castri push the boundaries of the classical concert form by incorporating various performative levels and thereby develop future-oriented strategies of creative collective music-making within the orchestra.

Swedish composer Lisa Streich explores the visualization of music, developing the idea of a concert cum shadow theater together with a light artist. Zosha Di Castri collaborates with the Mexican author Valeria Luiselli on an interdisciplinary concert piece for orchestra, singers and the solo performing percussionists of the State Orchestra. Her theme is the global phenomenon of migration, presented in an aesthetically abstract form touching on the themes loneliness and foreignness and reflected upon with a sculpture in the stage space. Made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation the composition commissions combine different cultural backgrounds, aesthetic positions and compositional signatures.
