Label Suisse 2022: Contemporary Music Programme

Association Label Suisse, Lausanne (CH)

The Label Suisse 2022 festival features concerts of jazz, new folk music, and pop-rock, as well as concerts of early, classical, and contemporary music, including five concerts of premieres or revivals with the participation of established musicians as well as musicians of the new generation. At the heart of this festival for a wide audience, which encompasses all musical genres and styles, the demands on contemporary music are the exploration of new sounds, the diversity of forms and a low-threshold approach that allows new audiences to access this music in the first place with free admission.

The programme is adapted to the festival venues and is deliberately rich in contrasts in terms of instrumentation, programmes and locations. It includes a world premiere concert by the Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain with two new works of about 30 minutes by Sylvie Courvoisier and Alex Paxton; a new version of the 25-minute collective creation UPE by Ensemble Contrechamps and the post-punk trio Massicot for post-punk trio and 7 strings, along with the revival of a piece by Michael Jarrell for violin and electronics; the revival of Allmenden, a 50-minute work by composer Klaus Lang for the saxophone quartet Konus Quartett and himself on harmonium. In addition, the project Pastorale Alpine by the duo Antoine Auberson (saxophone) and Benjamin Righetti (organ) will be premiered. Pastorale Alpine is a re-composition of alpine folk songs by Antoine Auberson, Benjmain Righetti and Valentin Villard. In addition, another project of contemporary music will be heard in conjunction with the winners of the Swiss Music Prize. The contemporary music programme of the Festival Label Suisse 2022 is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
