Commissions to Giorgio Netti and Kristofer Svensson

Trio Abstrakt, Cologne (DE)

With his new work puLsar, the Italian composer Giorgio Netti has created the centerpiece of his new, extensive cycle LANterna for Trio Abstrakt, in which three different trios, each with a saxophone in the line-up (Trio Abstrakt, Trio Feedback and another trio), each perform their own self-contained trios, which are also linked in a complete performance by transitional passages with mixed line-ups of the three trios. puLsar is an independent, extensive trio that was premiered as part of Trio Abstrakt concerts at Milano Musica 2024 and the NOW! Festival at the Philharmonie Essen.

The composers Rachel C. Walker and Kristofer Svensson and the Finnish sound artist Johanna Sulalampi are working on an immersive overall concept for the new format blurringEdges for Trio Abstrakt, which blurs the boundaries between works. Here, the respective newly commissioned works by the three composers/sound artists are linked together through collaboratively composed interludes - the intensive artistic exchange between the composers/sound artists plays a central role here.

The commissions to Giorgio Netti and Kristofer Svensson for the Trio Abstrakt are supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

In the past, Trio Abstrakt has developed a concept for an immersive chamber music experience with its spotlight series, whereby the format is enriched with aspects of electronics, music theater, light, costume and much more, but the chamber music work and quality are always the core of the entire work. In spotlight, a single composer is commissioned to compose a full-length work for the trio.
